  • Overview

    XL Fleet is seeking a Director of Human Resources. This position is a key role within the company responsible for all elements of HR administration, and will be a go-to-team member for the entire XL Fleet organization. This individual should be a highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, creative, resourceful, adaptable, entrepreneurial team player who shares a passion for clean technology. It requires excellent organization and communication skills, a strong work ethic, as well as flexibility to adapt to new and unforeseen challenges that regularly confront a start-up organization. The role is well-suited for someone with a desire to make a significant mark on an emerging organization. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and will work closely with the leadership team and entire XL Fleet organization.


    Responsibilities are diverse and include: benefits administration, employee relations, staff training, performance management, onboarding and off-boarding of personnel, policy development and implementation, recruiting, employment law compliance, accounts payable and payroll processing. Specifically, the Director of HR at XL Fleet will:


    XL Fleet is the leading developer and provider of simple, smart, sustainable fleet electrification solutions for the commercial vehicle market.  Our customers include transportation, municipal, and utility fleets.

    • Perform benefits administration throughout the year – coordinating health, dental, 401(k), life and disability insurance, and others; serve as the lead point of contact within XL Fleet during open enrollment; implement other creative company benefits with the goal of attracting and retaining top talent;
    • Policies and procedures. Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures, for example prepare and maintain employee handbook and other policies as needed; ensure all policies, procedures, employee classifications, etc., are up to date and are legally compliant;
    • Recruiting. Manage XL Fleet’s recruiting activities including all consultants we have engaged to ensure we attract the best and brightest talent attracted to the company; this includes working with hiring managers to understand job requirements, developing relationships with and serving as key company liaison for all recruiters, ensuring jobs appear on key job boards, coordinating the entire interview process, maintaining relationships with universities and co-op programs, reporting against key performance indicators on recruiting to senior management team;
    • Employee relations. Have responsibility for the successful and smooth onboarding and off-boarding of all employees;
    • Record keeping. Maintain and ensure compliance of all key confidential records of business (i.e. employee records, confidentiality agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other contracts); maintain HR information system records through various platforms;
    • Manage XL Fleet’s presence on key websites like LinkedIn and Glassdoor;
    • Performance reviews. Implement and administer the performance review program and the annual incentive program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within the organization
    • Payroll. Process payroll on a routine basis;
    • Work with management on future space planning needs; mentor and manage intern and temporary staff as needed to support the role; perform other related duties as required and assigned.



    •  bachelor’s degree and two to five years’ human resource experience; SHRM certification a plus
    • Experience with ADP is preferred but not required
    • Strong organizational and time-management capabilities
    • Proficiency with basic productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
    • High level of professionalism, ethics and integrity
    • Capable of working both independently and as part of a fast-moving team
    • Strong interest in doing work that makes a difference, learning every day, and having fun along the way
    • Business background and/or MBA a plus
